Veitch inspires Nest

THE presence of their former teammate and the current Scotland darts captain Mike Veitch inspired Martins Nest to a 4-3 Brighouse and District League victory on Tuesday night over the Half Way House, Huddersfield Road, Wyke.
Veitch was on his way back from the Lakeside County Club in Frimley Green, Kent, and a round one exit from the BBC TV televised World Professional Darts Championship to his home in Bonnyrigg, Edinburgh, Scotland and opted to stop off and see landlord Shaun Fountain and his darts team.
Two seasons ago while working in this area the Scotland team captain opted to play for the Martins Nest to keep his hand in and the delight on the faces of his former teammates was there for all to see as they arrived at 8.25pm for their 8.30 on the oche.
The personable Veitch had qualified for the championships with three others from a qualifying stage in Bridlington after letting his ranking slip over the past two years. He came up against Bradfordian Scott Waite who at the moment is really on top of his game, losing three sets to one.
