KARATE instructor John Lowe proved he still had the winning formula when he competed at the senior/cadet national championships.
Mr Lowe who teaches karate in Rastrick and Brighouse successfully beat strong competition to become winner of the senior male individual Kumite - Freestyle fighting - category, which he has previously won in 1995, 2006 and 2007.
The managing director at G. E. Mitchell in Brookfoot, said he felt great and a bit relieved when he won.
"You fight with everyone in the country in the organisation and it is definitely quite hard and physical."
One of the people that he beat in the quarter finals was one of the competitors who knocked Mr Lowe out last year so he was thrilled to get his revenge.
He also came third in the senior male individual Kata category at the competition with the United Kingdom Traditional Karate Federation held in Thornton near Blackpool.
The 42-year-old competed against people in their 20s and said the younger ones were getting faster but vowed to continue.
Mr Lowe has been training since 1981 and has been teaching karate in the area since 1995.
He is a member of the UK Traditional Karate Federation and has been entering European and World competitions since 1995, winning three team bronze medals in that time.
And on October 22 he is going to Italy with the rest of the UK squad to the 29th ITFK European Championships in Casale Monferrato, Italy.
Mr Lowe will be starting beginners classes at Rastrick High School and Brighouse High School. For more information visit www.btkc.co.uk
