Newly-crowned champions Junction sign off in style
JUNCTION have been officially crowned S & R Distribution Brighouse SFL champions - and rounded off their season in some style with a 5-1 victory over Old Pond at Lane Head.
It is the first time a club playing out of the Rastrick hostelry has landed the title since the 1987-88 season and was achieved without losing a single game throughout the campaign.
In their last league outing it was easy to see why they have amassed such a creditable record, as a gutsy Pond side were predominantly forced onto the back foot by the excellent passing and movement of the new champions.
Robert Malone stands as the league's leading goalscorer with 24 goals, 9 ahead of nearest rival Jason Kirby who plays for Sunday's opponents and he was influential again. He netted direct from a free kick whipped in from out wide to give Junc' the lead, before doubling the visitors advantage just before the break having typically drifted off his left wing into a goalscoring position.
