Sun Inn claimed the last Echo Cup semi finals spot on Sunday – but not before a tough examination from Triangle at Milner Royd.

A glimpse of the Brighouse SFL league standings suggested a comfortable win for the Rastrick visitors but the gutsy home side pushed the favourites all the way in the last eight match.

Ben Brown found the back of the net for 'Angle – his ninth goal in 11 matches – but Sun will join Top Club, Junction Rastrick and Martins Nest in the last four courtesy of goals from Michael Hrab and Lee Nicholson in a 2-1 win.

The semi finals draw will take place on Monday, December 21 at Hove Edge WMC.

In the league Junction and Pack Horse played out the rarest of results in Sunday football, a 0-0 draw, at Carr Green.

On a poor surface both sides will feel they had chances to win the match.

Junc's Alistair Sutcliffe was thwarted twice in one-on-one situations, with his side also striking the cross bar. At the other end the Southowram visitors had two glorious late openings to snatch the three points at the death, the best falling to the once more excellent Dave O'Shea but he missed when well placed.

Eastfield bounced back from losing their first league game of the season by taking maximum points at Hipperholme and Lightcliffe High School against Dusty Miller.

The league leaders were given a real match by the Hove Edge side, for whom Calvin Lee was once more the star man in front of goal. He netted a brace with Jordan Parnell and captain Matthew Bagshaw also finding the back of the net.

At the other end Eastfield had a hero of their own in Ryan Collins, as he went one better than Lee in hitting a hat-trick. Goals from Craig Wormald and Craig Gabbitas sealed a 5-4 victory which, with Junction's draw, saw them claw back some of last weekend's dropped points at the top.

At the other end of the table, bottom two Top Club and Rastrick C & AC went a long way to making up for the lack of goals at Carr Green by plundering twelve between them at Field Lane.

Ryan Barkham was tormentor in chief for TC as he hammered four past the visitors in a 7-5 win for his side.

Jamie Clay netted twice to continue his good form in front of goal, but Adam Booth took the plaudits for goal of the game as the home side's front man dispatched a kick out from Rastrick keeper Daniel Barnes straight back over his head on the volley from 40 yards.

The visitors weren't without star performers and looked lively up front through Stephen Hall and Danny Jackson. Hall grabbed a hat-trick and Jackson two in their side's best offensive performance of the season.

On the neighbouring pitch, New Spitfire and Old Pond played out a very entertaining match in which after a great start from the visitors, Spitfire mounted a second half comeback.

Pond dominated the first half openings but had to be patient against a home side whose defence was on top of its game – man of the match Luke Heffernan the pick of their defensive unit.

Paul Taylor curled just over for Pond after good work from Jason Kirby before the latter was brought down in the area only to see Spitfire keeper Carl Butler make a great save with his legs from the ensuing spot kick.

At the other end Dan McLeod's strength created Spitfire's best opening as he bustled into the box, but Bob Priestley made a telling goal line clearance for Pond.

The opening goal came after a great Pond move down the left. Richard Rothwell and Lee Potter played a one two, before Taylor, having curled just over with his earlier sighter, this time found the top corner.
The visitors second came from a route one counter attack, as Taylor launched an up and under for Kirby to chase and with a lot to do he brushed off two challenges before firing home.

The third should have killed the game off, as Taylor once more curled home, but Spitfire made a spirited quick fire comeback in the second half.

Captain, Richard Mellor was influential in the fightback with his forays from defence and he found the telling ball for Lewis Mellor to start the home side's renaissance. He then crossed to the back post, where Jamie Rice headed home to leave the visiting defence under heavy pressure for the first time, and their lead under threat.

With the next goal vital in the tie Tom Mellor looped a shot at the Pond goal at one end, before Richard Rothwell put Pond back in the driving seat at the other. Taylor sent his strike partner through on goal and under heavy pressure from Heffernan he kept his cool to finish expertly.

There was still time for Pond sub Darrell Holdsworth's skill to create another opportunity at one end, and for Lewis Mellor to be denied by a top drawer reflex save from Ben Briggs at the other but the tie ended with Pond 4-2 victors.

Fixtures for Sunday, December 20 (10.30): Martins Nest v Top Club, Lane Head No2; Triangle v Pack Horse, Milner Royd, Sowerby Bridge; Dusty Miller v New Spitfire, Hipperholme & Lightcliffe HS; Eastfield v Rastrick C&AC, Field Lane No2; Junction Rastrick v Old Pond, Carr Green Rec.
