THE Avocet Brighouse Sunday Football League, weather permitting, will resume on Sunday, with the destination of the ultimate goal of being crowned league champions still in the minds of several clubs.

Eastfield are the current leaders, with an impressive eight point gap over nearest rivals Junction Rastrick but the latter have two games in hand.
'Field will play their first game of 2010 against a Martins Nest side who have improved massively si
nce a typically slow start to their campaign. Ironically the transfer of Leighton Armstrong from Eastfield to Nest seemed to act as a catalyst for their revival, adding an interesting sub plot to this weekend's match.
The match will also feature some of the top performers in the division at the half way mark of the campaign, with Nest's Jacob Driver plundering a plethora of goals from midfield, whilst Ryan and Wayne Collins are seldom not on the 'Field score sheet.
The Rastrickians from the Junction hostelry are not looking likely to surrender the league title they have held for two seasons now easily - and they would expect to take three points on Sunday from ground sharing rivals and bottom placed side Rastrick C & AC.
Free scoring Alistair Sutcliffe will be one of Junc's forward line hoping to make hay against their lower ranked neighbours, but should take heed from an improved performance last time out by Raastrick C & AC, who found the back of the net five times against Top Club.
Of greater concern to both clubs may be the poor state of their home surface which, despite protection, has suffered badly with the heavy rainfall of late 2009.
In the chasing pack of title outsiders, Pack Horse will be facing near rivals Old Pond at Savile Park, in a match the result of which will be very difficult to call. The opponents played out a 3-3 draw on the opening day of the season with Jason Kirby netting a dramatic last gasp equaliser for Pond, and having just returned from injury will be a key player again.
For Pack, Dave O'Shea has been one of the top players so far not just for his club but in the league as a whole and his midfield partnership with Jimmy Cummings will be a key battle ground.
Top Club and Dusty Miller also meet on Sunday, both with recent upturns in form of late and with confidence buoyed. TC hammered Old Pond impressively in the Echo Cup with Jamie Clay netting four to highlight his credentials, whilst a win over New Spitfire and close run thing against Eastfield saw Dusty's Calvin Lee in particular stand out with his scoring exploits.
Spitfire and Triangle will be out of action until the second weekend of January - a chance to work off their Christmas excesses, before facing tough encounters with Nest and Junction respectively. For a league debutant Spitfire will be pleased with their mid table standing, especially considering the youthful look of their squad and look to have a bright future in the division. 'Angle have had a tough run of games to follow up an 11 goal mauling of Rastrick C & AC, and will be looking to perennial leading marksman Ben Brown and strike partner Alex Brown to fire them to more points in 2010.
One team will be representing the Brighouse SFL in the Halifax District Cup on Sunday, carrying with them the best wishes of the division.
Sun Inn have done well to reach the last eight where they will travel to face Falcon Pine, who sport Brighouse Town's Wayne Crossley amongst their number.
A recent defeat of Eastfield, the first team to do so in the league, has seen Sun re-enter the title race, and with Adrian Kelly back to fitness and midfield man Ben Timson drawing the plaudits at present look set for a positive 2010.
l At the last league meeting of 2009, the eagerly anticipated draw for the Semi Finals of the Echo Cup took place. Junction Rastrick were drawn to play at home on February 28 against Top Club, while Martins Nest will face Sun Inn at Lane Head.
Two transfers were also announced. Andrew Pearson from Old Pond to Pack Horse and Graeme Suttle from New Spitfire to Rastrick C & AC.
A decision over the format of the John Smiths Shield competition was held back to January meeting, where clubs would submit their interest one way or another.
Fixtures for Sunday: Halifax and District League Sunday Cup Quarter final: Falcon Pine v Sun Inn, Savile Park No 7 (10.30).
Avocet Brighouse Sunday League, January 3 (10.30): Eastfield v Martins Nest, Field Lane No 2, Pack Horse v Old Pond, Savile Park No1; Rastrick C & AC v Junction Rastrick, Carr Green Rec; Top Club v Dusty Miller, Field Lane No1.
