Cricket heritage goes on show

SPORTS historian Dr Peter Davies who received a grant of £43,400 from the Lottery Fund to explore the heritage and social history of cricket in Calderdale and Kirklees, will unveil the end product at a welter of exhibitions to be staged early next month.

Some 57 pubs, 26 libraries, seven community centres, six social clubs, four post offices, three garden centres, a pair of museums and supermarkets, plus an art gallery, swimming baths, tennis club, hospital and even a police station are all housin
g the exhibition entitled a Summer of Love.
There are 112 in total commencing with Elland CC at Elland Library on Monday, April 4 at 6.30 until June 3.
The opening of each exhibition of cricketing memorabilia from the area will take around 45 minutes and there will be refreshments with admission free to all venues.
The Brighouse CC exhibition at Brighouse Library opens on Thursday, April 14 at 6pm and runs until June 14, the venue for Outlane CC is at the Waggon and Horses from Wednesday, May 4 (7pm) until Friday, September 30, Lightcliffe CC from June 17 at the Sun Inn, Lightcliffe (7pm) until September 30, and if the pub remains closed an alternative venue will be found, Rastrick CC's history and artifacts can be found at the Round Hill, Clough Lane from Wednesday, July 6 at 6.30pm until September 30.
On the same evening Badger Hill start their exhibition at their Mellor's Bar HQ (8.30) until October 31, Blackley CC, who have players from the Rastrick area involved with them, get underway on Wednesday, September (7pm) until October 31 at the Golden Fleece and Southowram CC are at Southowram Library from Thursday, August 18 (6.30) until Tuesday October 18.
Those attending the exhibitions are encouraged to bring along anything to do with cricket from their area and the county that will enhance already what is on show and if they don't want it back then the clubs could benefit.
