Brods in a league of their own

OLD Brods achieved their target of remaining unbeaten throughout the season by winning their last match in style at the weekend.
Their remarkable record – 22 matches played, 22 won – is down to a superb team effort led by the coaching partnership of Nick O'Connor and Ian Armitage.

Away from league competition in Yorkshire Two Brods have enjoyed a good cup run in the EDF National Senior Vase and are still in with a shout for the Yorkshire Shield.

Player-coach Nick O'Connor modestly shares the bouquets pouring into Woodhead and singles out first team coach Armitage for particular praise.

"Ian has been remarkable, the mainstay of training, keeping it fresh and enjoyable. Along with skipper Ollie Akroyd, I hope that from day one we brought a bit of structure and impetus into proceedings as well as a good old fashioned work ethic.

"Training has been excellent. The numbers have been something I have not witnessed before and I think this has been the catalyst for this memorable season.

"I do not think there has been a fitter team in the league. Even when we have faced the teams from higher divisions we have not looked out of place."
