Brighouse Rangers Ladies narrowly missed out on their first win in a closely-fought and tough encounter on Sunday.

In their first home game, Rangers looked a completely different outfit compared to recent matches and had obviously been working hard on their defence.

The play the ball was quicker, handling was a vast improvement, errors were few and far between and they looked like they were playing for each other.

Rangers opened the scoring when Tish Furness's short ball outside paved the way for Lucy Gill to cross the whitewash.

Victoria Lawton extended their lead when she crashed over from acting half. Again Gill missed with the conversion attempt.

Leading up to half time the visitors crossed the line as powerhouse prop Tina Ivison, who really caused some problems for the Rangers defence, bulldozed her way over from 30 metres out.

Hannah Callaghan tagged on the goal to reduce the deficit to 8-6 and it remained the same until the interval.

After the change of location, Batley came back the strongest and continued to pressure the Brighouse line and taking advantage of some tired legs they span the ball out wide and Megan Sheard went over for the winning try.
