THE Echo is alive and well – and not about to cease publication.
Fears that the newspaper is to fold are groundless, the Echo’s editor, Stephen Firth, said this week.
“There has been speculation over the last few days that the paper is to close but that is not the case.
“The facts are that while the office in Brighouse is to close and I am leaving, staff will move to Halifax where production will continue alongside the Halifax Courier, Todmorden News and Bridge Times.”
The Courier is to relaunch as a weekly title, at the same time stepping up its minute-by-minute online coverage.
It is hoped that an office for the Echo can be established in Brighouse town centre so that vital contact with readers and advertisers can be maintained.
