WOMEN in business are joining forces to celebrate midsummer with a spectacular ball and raise much-needed funds to help a children’s hospice expand its vital work.
The event on Saturday, June 16 is the first major fund-raising event organised by Ladies 4 Networking, which has members in Brighouse, Huddersfield, Halifax and other areas of West Yorkshire.
Since it was set up in 2010 by sisters Marina Simioli of Travel Counsellor and Nada Toko of Tokos Solutions, Ladies 4 Networking has expanded from holding monthly meeting in Huddersfield to hosting regular events across West Yorkshire.
Brighouse businesswoman Helen Davies has been involved with the group for about a year and has found the support and advice of other members invaluable. The 38-year-old former Brighouse High School student runs Bash, organising weddings, parties and special events. Helen is also the sister of Brighouse singer and songwriter Roger Davies.
“I have found being involved with Ladies 4 Networking a great experience. One of our members is Mandy Barwick, who runs Charity Angels, and she has been inspirational to me.
“When you set up a business it can be an anxious time and it’s been great to be able to share the knowledge and experience of other women who have been down a similar path. Our lunches are always informal occasions but they are also very useful.”
Ladies 4 Networking lunches are held regularly at Prego restaurant, Brighouse.
Marina said: “The formula has been an instant success for women in business who are passionate about supporting, forming alliances with, advising and learning from others.
“At each meeting, ladies bring and share contacts, experience, expertise and skills.
“Having established such a powerful resource, it felt appropriate to create an opportunity for members to celebrate our success and collaborate to generate funds for a thoroughly deserving cause.”
The proceeds of the Midsummer Dream Ball will go to Kirkwood Hospice which has provided specialist palliative care for tens of thousands of people in Kirklees who are living with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. 2012 marks the 25th anniversary of the opening of the hospice and also the start of Kirkwood’s £3 million Capital Appeal. The biggest building project since Kirkwood opened in 1987, the aim is to improve facilities for in-patients and their families.
The Midsummer Dream Ball is being held at the Cedar Court Hotel, Huddersfield. Entertainment will come from swing singer Richard Daniels and there will also be a raffle and auction, dancing and a fun casino.
Sponsors are now being sought as well as donations for the raffle or auction.
