THE Stafford Arms (right)between Hartshead and Scholes re-opened two months ago after being closed for several months. The pub has been rescued by Richard and Sarah Wilson (right) who used to drink in the pub. “We wanted our local back” said Richard.
It hasn’t quite gone to plan as Richard and Sarah bought the pub and planned to put a manager in but instead Sarah is in charge. Richard has his own engineering company in Brighouse, Willow Valley Engineering, and the couple have 16-year-old twins, James and Laura.
The pub has undergone cosmetic changes with new windows and a clean-up on the outside and an extensive clean and a refurbishment inside.
The beer garden is currently being cleaned up just in time for the good weather!
Richard is keen to keep the real ales flowing at the pub and at present they have two Thwaites ales, two Timothy Taylor brews and Copper Dragon. The quiz will also be re-instated in the future.
“We are new to the industry but we aren’t doing badly, no two weeks have been the same,” said Richard.
“Our aim is to keep the pub traditional. If we do have to go down the food route we will and I am open to franchising the kitchen if anyone is interested, as we would certainly look into it.” The pub’s opening hours are Monday to Friday 4pm-11pm and Saturday and Sunday 12-close.
TONIGHT (Thursday) at the Barge, the Jam session is with Mick Brown. On Friday night Empress will take to the stage and on Saturday evening there is live music from Suicide Blonde.
SATURDAY’S singer at Blakeborough’s Social and Sport Club is Ethan Leigh.
