A NEW housing and shopping development is starting to take shape in Hipperholme.

Brighouse based Stercap Properties Ltd is behind the scheme which is between Leeds Road and Wakefield Road, opposite Hipperholme library.

The development includes six shop units and 10 duplex apartments, all of which will have two bedrooms.

There will be additional secure parking for residents underneath the building.

Local entrepreneur Colin Wormald, who has interests in retail, property and energy consultancy, and is the owner of Stercap Properties Ltd, said there has been a favourable response to the development.

“There have been problems with fly-tipping and the general area looking untidy in the past where we are currently building so people have said they are glad something is being done.

“There have already been a number of inquiries from companies expressing an interest in the shop space.

“We are trying to show that it is not all doom and gloom with the current climate and we are still being pro-active in our local areas.

“We hope it is going to be beneficial for the district and we want to reassure residents that all the work will be completed on the development.

KLH Projects Ltd, based in Brighouse, was awarded the contract for the design and build project where work is expected to be completed by early summer.

The project employs locally based sub-contractors and a professional team headed by chartered architect David H. Horton.
