Brighouse Civic Trust has awarded its second shopfront award to another of Brighouse’s long established businesses - Ryecorn Wholefoods Ltd.

Ryecorn’s first shop was opened in the early 1970s, and in 2011 the business moved to larger premises in Bethel Street, where they continue as independent retailers of organic food, supporting local producers.

Members of the Trust spent time looking at Brighouse’s many varied shopfronts during the summer, and selected Ryecorn’s from a shortlist of six.

They were finally won over by the look of the attractive daytime shopfront as well as the eye-catching mural which adorns the shutters at night.

A local painter and graffiti artist, ‘Theo’ was commissioned to depict parts of Brighouse, and working from an old photo of the town, the large mural was eventually completed after Theo had worked through the night !

John Culpan, chairman of the Civic Trust, congratulated John Buxton, managing director and his staff, and handed over the award at a short presentation at the shop.
