Extra bus route plan for village

TRANSPORT bosses have increased a crucial bus service to an isolated village.

The number of buses catering for people in Norwood Green will be increased by operator Ladies Only Travel who have taken over the route from First. The service used to run Monday, Wednesday and Friday but will now run Monday to Friday.

The 226 bus will set off from Halifax Bus Station via Godley Road, Godley Lane, Leeds Road, Halifax Road, Leeds Road, Whitehall Road, Rookes Lane, Village Street to Norwood Green.

Changes were also made to the 570 service by bus operator First earlier this year which means the service now runs from Bradford, via Brighouse, to Rastrick.

A First spokesman said: “In the current economic climate we found it increasingly difficult to run the route to its full entirety to Halifax on a commercial basis.

“We have worked with the local authorities to ensure customers have alternative bus services. Another bus operator has won a tendered contract to run a service between Halifax, Elland, Rastrick and Brighouse. In addition First’s 571 service runs hourly and covers areas such as Whinney Hill.

“This decision on the 570 service will be reviewed on an ongoing basis and we will keep talking to local communities and stakeholders about this matter.”

The 570 service covers Nunnery Lane via Lower Edge Road, Delf Hill, Tofts Grove, Jumble Dyke, Church Street, Ogden Lane, Rastrick Common, Gooder Lane, Huddersfield Road, Elland Road, Brighouse Bus Station, Stoney Lane, Aysgarth Avenue, Bentley Avenue, Greenfield Avenue, Wakefield Road, Denholmegate Road, and up to Shelf

The 571 service travels from Halifax and through Southowram to Elland Road, Halifax Road, Gooder Street, to Brighouse Bus Station, back to Halifax Road, Waterloo Road, Garden Road, Lightcliffe Road, Smith House Lane, anti-clockwise around Whinney Hill Park, Smith House Lane, then as 570 route to Shelf.

Metro also managed to fund a temporary service between Brighouse, Rastrick and Halifax until the end of October when it will be reviewed along with other services in the Calderdale area.

The 573 operated by Centrebus will travel from the Elland direction to Dewsbury Road, Slade Lane, Crowtrees Lane, Church Street, Ogden Lane, Rastrick Common, Gooder Street, Huddersfield Road, Elland Road, Halifax Road, Gooder Street to Brighouse Bus Station and back again.
