Spring clean for cemetery

MORE people are needed to give Brighouse Cemetery a spring clean.

This weekend the troops will descend on to the cemetery in Lightcliffe Road to spruce up the area which has deteriorated over the last few years.

Businesses have been showing their support to mother of three Claire Connor who is leading the operation.

Marshalls in Southowram has donated 50 pairs of gloves, Sainsbury’s in Brighouse has donated T-bags and biscuits. The Co-op in Rastrick is showing its support along with Tailored Prints in Elland.

B & Q in Halifax is donating some plants along with Kershaw’s Garden Centre in Brighouse.

But more volunteers are needed for the two-day event between 10am and 4pm which is being supported by Calderdale Council.

Claire, who used to live in the area, said: “We need more people to come forward and help. There is so much work that needs to be done. Even if people just come and do their own graves that would be a big help.

“There will be refreshments on the day and toilets will be available. I just want to clear the debris, cut the grass back and clear away the litter.”

Claire who runs her own cleaning company, Maid to Order, wants to hear from people who are interested in helping.

“It doesn’t matter how old they are it will be a team effort but if they can contact me if they are interested. I just want to make a list of names and contact numbers so I can thank them afterwards.

“People don’t need to come for both days or all day. But if people don’t come and support it we won’t get as good a result.

“My three children, Ashley, Kayleigh and Thomas are lending a hand and their friends so they will be people of all ages.

“This clean up means a lot to me because I just want to be able to give something back for my dad.”

Claire, who nows lives at Siddal, is hoping to get Community Payback involved and would like to hear from any businesses who wish to help or donate items.

“Quite a few people have said they will come. I just want it to look nice and to get it completed in those days.” To contact Claire call 07713151399.
