Members of the Brighouse Ludenscheid Society visited their German neighbours who have been linked with the town since the 1950s.
After being welcomed by friends, they went for a service at Ev Kirchengemeinde church.
During their visit, the society was given a civic reception at the town hall before a visit to Krombacher brewery at Kreuztal.
Also on the tour they took in sights in Frankfurt, Senckenberg natural history museum and visit to Siku/Wiking Modellwelt model and toy car exhibition.
Stuart Black, a member of the society, said: “We all had an enjoyable time in Ludenscheid. The societies take part in exchanges in alternate years. We try to include social, cultural and vaguely sporty events.”
The link between Brighouse and Ludenscheid was founded as long ago as 1950 by the Brighouse Children’s Theatre which exchanged visits with a similar group in Ludenscheid.
Sporadic exchanges over the next few years led to the formation in 1962 of the Twin-Link Societies (The Brighouse - Ludenscheid Society in Brighouse and the Ludenscheid - Brighouse Gesellschaft in Ludenscheid).
The link was strengthened by the civic twinning charter which was signed in 1960.
Brighouse Ludenscheid Society has the aim to develop friendship, understanding and cultural awareness between people in Brighouse and Ludenscheid.
