Searching for some common ground
WHAT a pity that two social clubs which have been a central part of so many people's lives are at each other's throats – metaphorically speaking.
At a time when pubs and clubs are feeling the ever-increasing draught of recession it is vital that both Blakeborough's Social and Sports Club and Blakes Albion Bowling Club continue.
They have survived to meet the social requirements of generations and, surely, none of the officials at the helm today wouid wish to be seen to be responsible for their demise.
That is a very real danger as long as the two sets of officials are at odds.
Bowling club members are adamant that a special meeting will go ahead tonight while the social club committee is equally entrenched in its view that it won't.
It is hard to see where the common ground lies, particularly since police were called in to investigate the clubs' affairs.
Where the police inquiry goes from here is not a matter for speculation.
It has clearly not helped build any bridges between the two factions which seem set on a collision course.
Will there be any way back whatever the outcome of pending inquiries?
We hope so, not so one side can claim a hollow victory, but for the sake of their members.
