Lights, camera, action - the search is on to find Brighouse’s next star.

Today the Brighouse Echo launches Brighouse Has Talent, a new event to shine a spotlight on the vast array of talented people in the Brighouse area.

Sponsored by Lattitude7, Bricks4Kidz and Sleigh & Story, and supported by Brighouse Business Initiative, Brighouse Has Talent is open to people of all ages and talents.

Last year the town got behind young comedian Jack Carroll on his way to the final of Britain’s Got Talent, and now we’re looking for the next act to follow in the talented teenager’s footsteps.

Brighouse Echo news editor Dominic Brown said: “Whether you’re a solo act, a duo, small group or even a choir of 50, we want you to take part.

“From musicians to magicians, singers to dancers, we’re encouraging people of all talents to enter the competition.”

Audition days will be held next month and the top ten performers, as voted for by the public, will go forward to the live grand final at Brighouse Civic Hall on December 1.

The audience and a panel of judges on the night will then crown the winner, who will receive a cash prize and the Brighouse Has Talent trophy.

“I’m very grateful to the support of our Brighouse Has Talent sponsors - Lattitude7, Bricks4Kidz and Sleigh & Story - for being part of this exciting new project,” Dominic said.

“I’d like to thank Bailiff Bridge Community Centre and Calderdale Council for accommodating us for the audition days and the grand final.

“And last but not least, a special mention to the members of Brighouse Business Initiative, whose advice and expertise with this new venture is much appreciated.

“The entire Brighouse Has Talent team is looking forward to unearthing the stars of the future.”

The application process is now underway, so make sure you get your entries in before the deadline of noon on Thursday, October 30.

Details will be announced soon of how you can buy tickets for the live grand final at the Civic Hall and see history made as we crown the first Brighouse Echo presents Brighouse Has Talent champion.
