DRIVERS are facing travel disruption in Brighouse town centre as a new bus layby is constructed.
Calderdale Council is designing the layby on the existing grass verge on Huddersfield Road, Brighouse, just outside the Sainsbury’s supermarket.
Planning permission was not needed to install the layby which will be funded through MyJourney - West Yorkshire Local Transport Plan 2011-2026 which was adopted in April and is being done in partnership with Metro.
Peter Stubbs, transportation officer at Calderdale Council, said: “The lay-by will replace the existing stops immediately to the south and will relieve localised traffic congestion by enabling buses to pull partially off the carriageway when loading and unloading, allowing other traffic to continue to flow.”
Work is expected to be carried out over the next fortnight.
Calderdale Council said it was aware this was a very sensitive area to be working in and the work being carried out is aimed at minimising disruption as much as possible.
