DRIVERS have been facing huge delays at Hipperholme due to a road closure.
Planned roadworks on Halifax Old Road has meant that traffic has been building up for those using the A58 to and from Halifax.
The road closure started on Tuesday and is due to finish on February 18, but until then motorists are being diverted.
The road closure is also causing problems for residnets who live in Shibden Hall Garth and Shibden Hall Close. The no through road means motorists who are travelling from Hipperholme have to follow the diversion on Burdock Way (south west), around Orange Street roundabout, along Burdock Way (north east), following New Bank which bears left, along Listers Road and up on to Shibden Hall Road, adding on huge delays especially at rush hour.
Although there is a road closure sign at the bottom of Shibden Hall Road motorists wanting to reach either of the estates or Shibden Hall can pass on the right hand side of the road, according to spokeswoman for Calderdale Council.
The road and footpaths have been closed by Mansell Construction Services Ltd, previously Strata Construction Ltd, so work can start on a £3.7 million design and build contract for Sanctuary Housing Group on the Maltings at Hipperholme. The project will create 24 houses and 15 apartments.
Paul Taylor, Mansell’s business development manager for the Yorkshire region, said they were pleased to be involved with the project and looked forward to working with them.
