THE joint reunion of Withinfields Primary School, Southowram, and Victorian Secondary Modern School, Brighouse, will take place next month possibly for the last time.
Organisers Barry Chapman, Jacqueline Mallett, and Peter Edwards are stepping down after the event on November 11 at Lightcliffe Club.
They are hoping that someone will take on the arranging but if not this year’s reunion will be the last one.
Mr Chapman organised the reunion for 25 years before passing the baton to Mrs Mallett, nee Pape, three years ago. But he continued to take an active role and helped to contact former pupils of both schools.
“It’s time to give some younger people with fresh ideas the chance to organise it,” said Barry. “We have been organising it for 28 years so we have had a good innings as they say. If no one wants to take it over that will be the end of it I’m afraid.”
Mrs Mallett said she wasn’t able to carry on due to family health problems. “I’m quite prepared to help the next person who wishes to take it on and point them in the right direction,” she said.
They are hoping to see record numbers at the event especially with it potentially being the last one. “We are hopeful people will come as a final chance. Every year we get people from somewhere different and there are always new faces. Even if it is just to see old friends or to catch up on old stories this may be the last chance they have,” said Mr Chapman.
The reunion is for people of all ages who attended either school and partners are also welcome to attend.
There will be a raffle with profits going towards postal expenses for the event, and various pictures on display.
