MORE than £2,000 was raised when Clifton villagers let their hair down and enjoyed a black tie charity ball.
The Holiday Inn at Coalpit Lane was the venue for a night of good food, music and entertainment.
The majority of the money raised will go to Clifton Village Nursery for new outdoor play equipment and ICT equipment with £250 going to St John’s Church and Clifton Methodist Church.
Organiser Michelle Tankard said: “It was a real community event and we had fantastic support from many of the organisations in Clifton. More than 130 tickets sold out well in advance of the evening and it was great to see old friends meeting up and having a good night.
“We had some fantastic prizes given for the charity auction including iPods, TVs and sports memorabilia. The evening started with a champagne reception, continued with a three-course meal and auction and ended with a DJ and dancing - there was a great atmosphere and it was enjoyed by everyone.”
Michael Tankard and Brian Gledhill were the auctioneers and revellers included people connected with organisations such as Clifton Rangers, St John’s School and Clifton Village Nursery.
“It was hard work getting it all together but well worth it. The children at the nursery will benefit from the money raised,” said Michelle. “People are already asking if there’s going to be another one next year.”
