Calder Valley MP Craig Whittaker has welcomed news that UK economic growth has been revised up to 0.9 per cent for the second quarter of the year by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
UK GDP was 3.2 per cent higher in the second quarter compared with a year earlier.
Revised figures from the ONS also show the UK economy surpassed its pre-recession peak in the third quarter of 2013.
Mr Whittaker said: “This is absolutely great news. The national economic outlook continues to improve all of the time and this is reflected here in the Calder Valley where I see businesses feeling more optimistic about the future.
“I spend a great deal of time speaking to local businesses and many are now taking on extra staff and looking to reinvest in the local area, which is a great boost for our local economy.
“Unemployment here in the Calder Valley is now less than two per cent, which is down by over half since May 2010 with 1,232 more people now in work.
“More people in work means there are more families who can rely on a regular income and so can look forward to a brighter future.”
