Inside the Council: Fix local problems first of all

Recently, a Brighouse Conservative councillor was pictured in Todmorden demanding that “something was done” to clear up a semi-derelict site, writes Coun Ann Martin (Labour, Brighouse).

Fine, but what about dealing with the problems on our own doorstep? There are plenty of sites in Brighouse, such as the old swimming baths, which could do with some urgent attention.

Yet when my colleague Anthony Rutherford asked the council what they were doing about these, they did not seem bothered.

Wouldn’t it be better if local councillors dealt with issues in Brighouse before pontificating on things at the other end of the valley?
