An important decision needs to be made in November regarding what used to be known as Council Tax Benefit.
The Government gave Councils the freedom to create their own Council Tax Reduction schemes for working age customers from April 2013, with reduced funding of almost 10 per cent. Pensioners are unaffected by these changes.
Calderdale Council members made a decision to fund the shortfall in 2013/14 and provide the same level of help as the previous Council Tax Benefit scheme.
This was to allow customers the chance to adjust to other benefit changes which were being introduced as a result of the Welfare Reform Act.
The Council now need to decide who will receive financial help to pay their Council Tax from 2014/5, and how much they will receive.
