A new system is being put together to prioritise highway improvements.
Calderdale Council officers currently have 140 roads throughout Calderdale on the list for improvements including Halifax Road and Bradford Road in Brighouse and a number in Rastrick.
At the moment Bradford Road is fifth on the list and Railway Street in Rastrick is seventh.
Officers are now developing a matrix system so that safety measures are taken on the main roads.
Councillor Colin Stout (Ind, Brighouse) said once this new system had been put into place they would then look at Bradford Road.
“We need to see what position it is going to end up in because of resources and how we can use them in the best way and work it all out after that,” he told members of Brighouse Road Safety Committee.
He said schemes were being drawn up but they were having to wait until they had the funding to proceed.
They said part of the congestion on Bradford Road was caused by the lack of parking facilities at the leisure centre but they couldn’t understand why someone would go to the gym to exercise and then have to park on the doorstep to save walking.
