Former England football ace Paul Merson will be drumming up support for two charities that help young people in the Brighouse area at a sportsman’s dinner tomorrow, January 31.

The former Arsenal forward will be special guest at the Holiday Inn, Clifton. He will be helping to raise money for The Hollybank Trust, one of the Holiday Inn’s chosen charities for 2014.

The trust, based at Mirfield, cares for young people with multiple and profound disabilities, providing educational support and residential care.

He will also be supporting Clifton Rangers FC, a successful team which provides young players with the chance to hone their skills and aim for a career in the professional game.

Simon Markham, operations manager at the hotel, who organised the event, said: “We want to put the hotel at the heart of the community and raise some much-needed funds.

“Paul Merson, now a top pundit on Sky Sports Gillette Soccer Special, is a keen supporter of organisations that encourage young people so it seemed like a great opportunity and promises to be a fantastic evening”.

Friday evening’s event at the hotel will feature top comedian and MC Pete Emmett, famous for his work with sports celebrities and includes a three course meal and charity silent auction and raffle.

The dinner starts at 7pm. For more information tel: 01484 404582.
