Overturned lorry on Elland bypass causes travel disruption

DRIVERS have been caught in traffic chaos after a lorry overturned on Elland bypass.

The large goods vehicle crashed along the Calderdale Way as it travelled in the outside lane just before the exit to Brighouse. The truck toppled over at around 1pm and was left straddling the central crash barrier.

Fire services from Elland, Brighouse and a technical rescue vehicle from Cleckheaton were called to free the driver trapped inside his cab.

The road had to be closed in both directions to allow the Yorkshire Air Ambulance service to land and take the man to hospital.

Both sides of the carriageway are currently close and police say are likely to be for some time.
