Olympic Games opening golden doors
WHEN it was announced that the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games were to be held in London in 2012, there was much scepticism whether anywhere outside the south-east corner of the country would benefit.
But in fact 90 companies in the Yorkshire region – two of them in the Brighouse area – have secured contracts to deliver goods and services to the games – and there are 1bn of contracts still to be won.
While the capital itself will bear the most obvious physical legacy of the games in terms of new facilities and infrastructure, firms such as Marshalls of Southowram and Rolla Ltd of Brighouse are showing that the economic benefits spread far beyond the Watford Gap.
Those benefits include job security for local workers
and their families and money going into local shops and services.
Supplying products for the Olympic Games is bringing business into the region and also providing Yorkshire companies with a fine chance to demonstrate their skills and expertise to a watching world. It's good to see that some firms have seized this golden opportunity with both hands are are determined to play their part in delivering a world-class event.
Lucrative contracts for major projects connected with the high-profile Olympics are still up for grabs and the advice seems to Yorkshire firms seems to be – go for gold.
