The Old Pond pub in Hove Edge opens tomorrow, Friday, after an £80,000 refurbishment.

The pub has been closed for three weeks while interior work has been carried out an d now licensee Helen Crawshaw is looking forward to opening the doors to regulars and new customers.

Helen has a team of friends helping her with her first pub, including hairdresser Richard Howard, who is sponsor of the Old Pond football team.

“I wouldn’t be here if Richard hadn’t supported me and encouraged me all the way,” said Helen. “The Old Pond is very much a community pub and we want to keep it that way.”

The pub will re-open on Friday night with a DJ providing the music. On Saturday there will be live music from a band called The Force and on Sunday there will be an all-day barbecue.

The pub is currently serving up four beers - Tetley’s, Doomsbar, EPA and Golden Sheep - and the plan is to introduce guest beers on a regular basis as well as other entertainment such as quizzes and rock and roll bingo.

“At the moment we are not doing food but we may consider it in the future. We just want to settle in and let people know we’re open.”

Richard said: “We’re sponsoring a new strip this season and we just want to see the Old Pond stay at the heart of the community in Hove Edge.”
