NEW members from the Brighouse area are being sought for the Calder Valley branch of the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

The branch, which offers support and friendship to MS sufferers, their families and carers, meets once a month at the Salvation Army, King Street, Brighouse.

Now the branch is keen to expand and wants more people to know about its work. Member Audrey Walker said: “Coming along to a group like ours is a great way to meet other people who are in a similar situation.

“We already have group meetings in Todmorden and now we are keen to attract new members in the Brighouse area.”

May 21-27 is Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Week and the Calder Valley group held a Cake Break at Brighouse Salvation Army to raise funds for research into the condition.

Gillian Greetham, who suffers from MS, said: “It’s a progressive illness and a very isolating condition.

“I’ve had it for about 15 years and you just don’t know how it’s going to develop. It’s vital that research is funded so we can find out more about how to treat it.”

Tesco and Sainsbury’s donated items for the Cake Break. There will be a similar event at Christ Church, Hipperholme, on Saturday, May 21 from 10am to noon.

The Brighouse branch of the MS Society meets at the Salvation Army on the second Thursday in the month from 10am to 11.30am.

New members are welcome and anyone who wants to find out more information can contact Audrey Walker on 01422 201266.
