The Martin Brook Dads v Managers memorial match at Brighouse Juniors kicked off in great spirits as captains Richard Brearley and Chris Bairstow led their teams out to play.

Within five minutes the Dads team had opened the scoring with a great shot from Steve Baldwin putting the parents 1-0 up. Not long after Ben Lewis had a near miss on goal being saved by the managers keeper Russ Holmes.

Moments later Baldwin made it 2-0. Alex Dale of the managers team was unlucky not to score with some powerful shots just firing high of the goal. Dan Heavyside made some good runs down the wing putting in some skilful crosses.

Within minutes of opening the second half Baldwin took it 3-0 making it a personal hat trick. Dads captain Bairstow made some great surging runs. Jordan Fulton made it 4-0 to the Dads putting the game to bed.

Dale was brought down by a two man tackle but much to the supporters dismay the Ref made no booking. Referee Dave Ellis was wearing a fetching nun’s outfit, all in the name of charity.

Ryan West in the Dads goal made some good diving saves to keep a clean sheet. The managers were unlucky not to score in the dying minutes when both Richard Hopley and John Gilroy struck the woodwork.

The whistle blew leaving the Dads victorious as 4-0 winners.

Both teams retired to the clubhouse for the unveiling of the Martin Brook memorial plaque in honour of the club’s founder who died last month.

The day was rounded off with food provided by The Dusty Miller.

The organisers would like to thank everyone who supported the event which raised just over £153 for The British Heart Foundation.
