Landlord Adrian Whitworth at The Beck, on Bradford Road, formally The New Inn, is celebrating the pub being re-opened for a year now and being at the helm.
“We are not having a party to celebrate - we are having a month of celebrations,” said Adrian.
The real ale house has had a special brew made, which is now available on the bar, called Brighouse Blonde and is from Yorkshire brew house Wentworth.
The celebrations start this weekend with live music on Sunday from 4pm with Blanty, Swan Song and acoustic singer Ben Miller.
The weekend after is what Adrian is calling “The Midsummer Sunday Sessions” and they will again have live music on the Sunday from 4pm with an array of quality artists.
Performing will be blues band Diamond Dac, local singer Lianne Brown, Brighouse band Weave and acoustic duo The Last Minute, plus DB3 who are also an acoustic act.
Carrying on the one year anniversary celebrations and to also celebrate Yorkshire Day on August 1, there will be a three day event at the pub from the first until the third of August, starting on Friday with a local real cider company who will be holding a tasting session at the pub, showcasing the best in Yorkshire ciders.
Plus there will be eight iconic Yorkshire brewed real ales available.
On Saturday from 3pm Kirklees Brass Band will be doing an outside concert at the pub as well as local companies providing Yorkshire food.
The weekend will wrap up on Sunday with live music from local group Jake Smallbones and Band from 4pm.
“I don’t know where the past 12 months have gone!” Adrian said. “The pub was shut for 11 months, then the pub group came in, ripped everything out and gave it an excellent refurbishment, re-named the pub and I was put in as landlord.
“I have spent the last year building the business and we have found our success in making sure the beer is right and we have good entertainment for the customers.
“We will carry on working on this formula for the future to keep the customers happy and here’s to the next 12 months.”
Groovy night at The Boathouse
l This Friday night at Jeremy’s at The Boathouse, Rachel Bray and her team will have live music from the Funk Lockers, who I am told are an extremely groovy band playing funk and soul.
On Saturday evening Whispering Jim will entertain. They are an energetic group playing a mix of rock covers and popular songs.
Then on Sunday afternoon from 4pm Carly Wood and Ric Armstrong acoustic will be on stage. Carly is lead singer of the ever popular Carly and the Kicks and Rik, as well as being guitarist in the band, now runs the monthly live jazz and jam night, the next of which is being held on Thursday, July 31.
l Tonight’s (Thursday) jam night at The Barge is with Dean.
On Friday evening its Strap on Jacks on stage, then Saturday they have the popular Vagabond. The Sunday evening live music comes from Kevin from Shindig.
l We may be in the throws of wedding season but the Casa is already thinking ahead for next year and has planned a wedding fayre on September 21, which is showcasing its new function suite to those who haven’t seen it.
It is on from 11am to 5pm with champagne and canapes, plus their carefully selected exhibitors.
