Walk of witness spreads the Easter message
MEMBERS of churches of different denominations in the Brighouse area took part in the Good Friday Walk of Witness.
Groups set off from St Matthew's and St John's churches in Rastrick, from St Martin's Church, Brighouse, Clifton Methodist Church and Ebenezer Methodist Church, Bailiff Bridge.
Each group walked quietly through the streets behind a person carrying a cross as a visual reminder to drivers, pedestrians and householders that Good Friday is the day when Christians remember the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
As the groups made their way to Brighouse bookmarks were handed out to people explaining the significance of Good Friday.
"We had a good response from people as we silently made our way into Brighouse," said the Rev Steph Jenner, Brighouse Methodist minister. "We were joined by more people for the service at Central."
Father Philip Fitzgerald, from St Joseph's Catholic Church, Brighouse, led the service which included readings from St Mark's Gospel.
On Easter Sunday 50 people from churches in the Brighouse and Rastrick area were at Round Hill, Rastrick, for a 6am sunrise service led by the Rev Matthew Pollard, Vicar of Rastrick.
After the service breakfast was served at Central Methodist Church before people went to their individual churches for Easter family celebrations.
