Two visitors from down under paid a visit to Brighouse to see first hand the buzz that surrounds Totally Locally.
Stuart Heseltine, an expat from Wales, is working on some big town and high street initiatives in South Australia and stumbled across Totally Locally while researching it on the website.
Stuart is hoping to launch the scheme in May but before doing so he wanted to see first hand how the scheme works and its success stories along with his colleague Craig Grocke.
Lesley Adams, chair of Brighouse Business Initiative gave them a short tour of the town centre before wine tasting in Czerwiks.
She said: “They wanted to see how it has worked over here and the benefits of doing it. We explained what we have done and all the different events from turfing Commercial Street for the Olympic torch to all the successful street markets we have had. The most important part was how it has brought the whole community together.”

The scheme in Australia will cater for 2,000 and covers an area the size of West Yorkshire.
“It was really nice and they picked our brains about what we have done and what has worked and how people get behind it,” Lesley said. “They were very impressed with Brighouse. It was just interesting talking to someone that is just about to start.
“We did our first market two years ago in April. It has just taken on a life of its own.
“Brighouse is just an ordinary town centre and shows what can be done,” she said.
