There was no time for pillow talk at a Clifton hotel as they made their way into the record books.

Staff at the Holiday Inn on Coal Pit Lane put their bed making skills to the test as they aimed to beat a Guinness World Record of how many pillows could be stuffed into pillow cases in just 60 seconds.

With the help of 27 employees in Brighouse, all of the chains 65 Holiday Inn Hotels in the UK and Ireland were looking to beat their own record mark.

Last year IHG UK and Ireland set a world best of 9,953 stuffed pillows in an action packed minute of mayhem.

Before the challenge got underway a video speech and motivational music helped staff get into the zone.

A few practice runs and some handy hints from the housekeeping staff saw the record breakers at the ready.

Across the UK a unified start of 2pm saw teams stuff pillows like they have never stuffed pillows before.

Independent adjudicators on hand to watch the competitors and inspect the pillows after.

Groups of kitchen, cleaning and bar staff bettered last year’s efforts with all the individual totals of the hotels added up and Guinness confirming 12,580 pillows had been successfully made.

General manager at Holiday Inn Leeds Brighouse, Louise Dodd said: “The team at Holiday Inn Leeds Brighouse are really pleased to break IHG’s Guinness World Record for how many pillows they can stuff into pillow cases in just one minute.

“We did a great job here as we managed beat last year’s total and stuffed a total of 116 pillows.

“It was a fantastic effort by everyone involved.”
