Special guests at apprentice open day

CALDER Valley’s MP and the Mayor of Calderdale will be among the special guests at an apprenticeships open day.

Craig Whittaker and Councillor John Hardy will visit Projex Solutions at St Pegs Mill in Thornhills Beck Lane for an open day on Friday, January 18, to promote apprenticeships in the local region. Businesses are struggling to cope with a reduced workforce that in turn adds pressure to the existing staff and stretches the efficiency of existing labour to its absolute maximum.

Apprenticeships are a major talking point all over Yorkshire and some good work is being done within the region with major players learning that apprenticeships can offer more than just labour support.

Managing director Jamie Ashton said: “For many years now we have identified a range of skill shortages and truly believe apprenticeships are about planting the seeds for the future growth of our business.”

Projex Solutions is used to providing solutions to business with its electrical testing and electrical design work for organisations such as BASF, Thornton & Ross, Seabrook Crisps, Rhodia and Stepan UK.

The company is hosting the open day between noon and 3pm. Mr Whittaker will discuss his thoughts regarding apprenticeships supporting business in the Brighouse area. The event will provide a great opportunity for local businesses.
