Saying it with flowers – and music

A COMBINATION of music and flowers led to a successful three-day Flower Festival at St Martin's Church, Brighouse.

The event, which had the theme ‘A Good Read’, attracted around 500 visitors including the audience at a Saturday evening concert by Yorkshire Co-op Brass Band.

The festival was opened and dedicated by former Brig-house team rector, the Rev Michael Wood, and a Sunday morning Festival Eucharist was led by team curate, the Rev Romita Shrisunder.

Floral arrangements were designed by members of the Spen Valley Flower Club and during Friday and Sunday organists and pianists provided background music.

On Saturday Rastrick High School instrumentalists provided the music along with members of Opus 44, an upper voice choir. The Brighouse Ringers rang a celebration quarter peal from the church tower on Saturday afternoon.

The Deputy Mayor of Calderdale, Coun Nader Fekri and Deputy Mayoress, Helen Silvester, were among the visitors.

“We had a highly successful event which attracted a lot of visitors,” said church warden Mr Alan Sparks.
