Rocking around the clock for Heroes

DANCERS are preparing to perform modern jive and ceroc routines at an 11-hour dance marathon.

The Remembrance Day event at the Ritz Ballroom, Brighouse, will see dancers both old and young dance for 11 straight hours to raise funds for Help the Heroes.

Sheila Kearns, who is organising the event, said the danceathon at 11.11am until 11.11pm on Sunday, November 11.

“Anyone that wants to come in is more than welcome. Tickets are £10 and people can join in the dance at any time to show their support to keep us going.

“Anyone who wishes to bake us any buns to sell on the day to bring in even more revenue will be greatly appreciated.

“We are hoping to raise more money this year than what we did last year which was around £18,000. It is an awful lot of money so we do need people to support us.”

Last year the Remembrance Day event saw 136 dancers perform modern jive and ceroc routines.

The aching bodies and sore feet were well worth it though as they danced their way to classic hits from Glen Miller to modern day tunes with seven DJs performing.

To get into the theme of the era a variety of costumes were worn ranging from soldier uniforms, sailors, land girls and special ritz resistance costumes.
