Robbers threatened staff during break in
TWO armed robbers have attacked a Brighouse jewellers in broad daylight.
The culprits each wielding a hammer attacked H Marsden Jewellers in Bradford Road last Thursday at 11.09am.
Two men, wearing balaclavas and identical clothing, had burst in and threatened staff.
They smashed a display case and escaped with a small quantity of jewellery.
Owner Glyn Foster said who was chatting with his friend in the back when the robbers burst in. “My wife, Julie, was in the shop serving customers. We have an electric buzzer on the front door to let people in and she had released the catch to let this woman in and at that time the robbers pushed past her and got into the shop.
“They each had a hammer and were masked so they couldn’t be recognised. They smashed two glass top counters and the front of another and grabbed some pairs of earrings each worth about £90.
“My friend who was in the back with me went into the shop and confronted one of them, which was brave. I suspect the thieves got far less than what they probably intended too.
“We had to shut the shop that day while the police investigated but we were open on Friday. We were very apprehensive obviously. These sort of things in our trade, are always in the back of your mind. You always think to yourself if it did happen what would I do?
“At the end of the day you don’t know how you will react until it occurs.
“Everything has worked itself out the best way it can without anyone getting injured.
“We are carrying on as normal, well as normal as you can after such an event. It is traumatic for my wife and myself having to put up with these sort of idiots but where do you go, it is a sign of the times. I am just glad my friend was around.”
The robbers made off in a green vehicle towards Commercial Street.
No one was hurt during the incident.
Neighbouring businesses said they did not hear anything but reported seeing them escape in a car which sped off with its passenger door open.
Inquiries are ongoing and detectives are urging anyone with information to contact them in Calderdale CID via 101.
Information can also be passed on anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
