Rastrick blast 'triggered deliberately'
AN explosion which rocked a block of flats in Gooder Lane, Brighouse, on Tuesday was triggered deliberately.
Three of the four flats caught fire, a wall was blown out and glass was showered into the road.
Firefighters and police are investigating the cause. They say the fire was started deliberately after finding traces of an "ignitable substance". Neighbours believe a petrol bomb may have been used.
Crews from Brighouse, Elland, Cleckheaton and Huddersfield were called.
Residents reported a loud bang at the two-storey building in Gooder Lane, near the junction with Laura Street, shortly after 2.30am.
The flats are believed to have been empty. A person is reported to have been seen running near the building shortly before the explosion. He is described as Asian, tall and thin with dark hair and wearing dark clothing
Police cordoned off Gooder Lane while structural engineers made the building safe.
