Labour’s Parliamentary candidate for the Calder Valley has attacked David Cameron’s “snub” of Calderdale in the government’s £50m fund to extend doctors’ opening hours.
Josh Fenton-Glynn hit out at the announcement, saying that no GP’s in Calderdale will receive any funding to extend their opening hours and just 28 GP practices across Yorkshire will benefit.
“I’m angry at David Cameron’s snub,” he said. “People across the Calder Valley are already having to wait far too long to see their doctor. When they heard the government say it had plans to rectify this they’ll have been relieved, but now we discover that David Cameron’s not going to spend a penny of that on us.
“We’ve been promised extended GP opening hours across Calderdale as part of the plans to close the A&E unit in Halifax, yet still the government has ignored our district in announcing this fund, which only makes me even more concerned at the threat to our emergency departments.”
