Pupils’ hair-raising experience helps to boost charity
Wacky hair day at St Chad's CE Primary School, Hove Egde.
NORMALLY these children would have been sent home from school if they had turned up like this.
But the giant wigs and brightly coloured barnets were part of a wacky hair day being held at St Chad’s CE Primary School to raise money for a cancer charity.
The imaginative children went all out, with glitter, colourful bobbles and plenty of backcombing to get some superb quiffs and spikes to raise more than £200.
The event was part of Rachel Hiley’s fund-raising campaign to support her friend Rachael Litjens, who has lost her hair while having chemotherapy treatment for lung cancer.
Rachel, a legal assistant from Hipperholme, also had her head shaved at the Yew Tree pub, Northowram, on the same day by hairdresser Helen Moran, of Shelf, who has been a friend of Rachael’s since the two were at nursery school together.
The money raised from the Hove Edge school where Rachel’s daughter, Millie, attends, will be combined with the £3,000 raised with the head shave.
Another fund-raiser will be held at Northowram Junior and Infant School, where Rachael’s children attended, and all the money will be donated to the Greenlea Oncology Unit at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary.
Rachael, who works as an administration assistant at Hillside Services, Bailiff Bridge, is being treated at the unit.
A spokeswoman for St Chad’s school said: “There were some very imaginative children and they all looked very bright and beautiful.
“They have all had a good time in doing it and it’s a very worthwhile cause.”
