Poet James inspires new generation of writers
Poetry competition winners with their certificates at Hipperholme Grammar School
POET and writer James Nash joined pupils for a poetry-writing workshop.
James spoke about what inspired him in the form of old photographs and objects such as a battered old trumpet and a boxing glove and encouraged the Hipperholme Grammar School pupils to consider the story behind them when writing their own poetry.
Each year seven pupil then presented their poem to the group.
Head of English, Mrs Settle said: “I was so proud of our pupils. They once again proved themselves to be exceptionally creative and enthusiastic about poetry and behaved impeccably throughout the day.”
Their work was then developed and entered into the school’s annual poetry contest. The winners in each year group were presented with a certificate and received a book token. The winners were Ben Cooper, Grace Miller, Mollie Rose and Polly Carter.
