Brighouse runner Peter Clegg is on target to raise more than £1,000 for the Motor Neurone Disease Assocation after completing the Great North Run at his first attempt.
Peter, of Camm Street, Brighouse, was inspired to take part in the event in memory of his mum, Julie, who died of motor neurone disease a year ago - and by watching TV coverage of the Olympics and Paralympics last summer.
He said: “The run went better than I ever could have predicted.
“I came through in Newcastle in just over 1 hour 30 minutes. I was actually aiming for about 1hour 40 minutes and I’m astounded that I managed to finish in such a good time and was placed 1198th overall.”
Peter, aged 28, started training for the event in earnest in May and has enjoyed rediscovering his love of running.
“Currently more than £418 has been raised for the MND Association with a raft of donations still to come in. I expect donations to exceed £500 and that will be matched by my employers, taking the final total to around £1,100,” said Peter.
