Partners start on new venture

THE last three months have been a challenge for business partners Tom Hartley and Shaun Banks but they have enjoyed every single minute of it.

The Towngate Brasserie, formerly the Yorkshireman, has now opened its doors sporting a brand new look.

The duo has been working every hour to improve the premises in Towngate, Hipperholme. They exposed brickwork and beams, modernise the decor, combatted wobbly walls and created a warm environment.

Both Tom and Shaun have been working hard to get the restaurant open and during that period Tom even found time to marry partner Natasha.

“I would invite everybody in and to come and have a look at the place and see what they think,” said Tom. “The Yorkshireman was a well known restaurant and had a reputation so we want to give people a chance to come in and meet us.”

The chefs held a preview evening for local businesses and some of the people who had helped to renovate the restaurant before opening its doors last weekend.

“We received some fantastic feedback. I’m very happy with how it looks and the positive comments we are receiving,” added Tom.

Some of the comments included how it had kept the character and that it was well done while others said what a good job they had done with it.

The award-winning chefs are both local and many people will know them from working at the White Beare in Norwood Green.

Shaun will be working in the kitchen and Tom will predominantly be out front. When Tom does go to help in the kitchen Natasha will be helping to serve on. They are currently looking for a full time member of staff who has experience.

They will be serving English cuisine, wines and real ales but with some overseas wines and lagers.

There is a waiting area for people to enjoy a drink before their meal, and the restaurant will seat around 42 covers. Next year they plan to open upstairs.

The restaurant is open from Wednesday to Saturday from noon until 2.30pm and then from 6pm until 9.30pm. On a Sunday they will be open from noon until 5pm. Towngate Brasserie is full for the next three Saturday evenings, so booking is recommended.
