TRIBUTES have been paid to Mrs Margaret (Maggie) France who has died at the age of 100.

Mrs France died in Calderdale Royal Hospital on January 12 after a short illness. She was a resident at Rastrick Hall residential home, Rastrick, when she celebrated her 100th birthday with a family party on November 15 last year.

Mrs France and her husband Fred, who died in 1974, were well-known in Rastrick where they were caretakers at Rastrick library for 25 years. The couple had two daughters, Margaret and Joan.

Mrs Joan Haley said: “My mother always said they were the happiest days of her life, when we were little and she had her family round her. She took great pride in her work and always kept the library spotlessly clean.”

Mrs France was a member of St Matthew’s Church, Rastrick, and of the Mothers’ Union for many years.

The Rev Matthew Pollard said: “She was very much part of the social and spiritual side of the church and we will all miss her.”

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, January 31, at St Matthew’s Church, Rastrick, at 2pm.
