Local funeral directors, Charles Wood Funeral Service, raised more than £500 for Overgate Hospice.

They attended Brighouse Victorian Christmas Market with their charity organ and raised £552.15.

Manager Chris Sykes said: “We have four fairground organs available and they work using air pumped by bellows or electric blowers. They play all types of tunes from classical to pop. The music is prepared on sheets of cardboard and are fed by powered rollers through the music box allowing air to pass through the perforations which in turn opens the valves allowing air to the appropriate pipe.”

He added: “This Victorian Christmas Festival was a huge success and Overgate Hospice are an organisation close to many people’s hearts. We are always so proud and privileged to support them. The care and support they show the community is with passion and pride and those ethics are what we also work to when caring for a loved one.”

Charles Wood Funeral Service was acquired by Dignity Caring Funeral Services at the beginning of 2013 and is already going through major changes with a clear vision to provide personal and professional funeral services.
