Man admits to charges of making indecent images
A 40-year-old man will be sentenced by a judge next month after he admitted a series of charges relating to indecent images of children.
Martyn David Akroyd, of Arnold Royd, Rastrick, Brighouse, has been due to stand trial at Bradford Crown Court today (Monday), but his basis of plea to 11 charges of making indecent photographs of children was accepted by the prosecution.
Akroyd was found to have 88 indecent images on his computer and his barrister Sophie Drake said he had typed in ‘’young teens’’ out of curiosity but had not expected the images to be so explicit when he clicked onto a website.
In his basis of plea Akroyd stated that the activity took place over a four-minute period and that was the only time he had done it.
The court heard that the offending took place back in April 2010.
Akroyd had no previous convictions and Judge Colin Burn agreed to adjourn his sentence until January 10 for the preparation of a report by the probation service.
Judge Burn told Akroyd he had sensibly pleaded guilty to the offences.
The judge indicated that the starting point for such offences was a short custodial sentence, but he would have to consider whether such a sentence could be suspended in Akroyd’s case.
Akroyd was granted unconditional bail until his sentence hearing and he was ordered to register as a sex offender with the police.
