A campaigner was invited to a Royal garden party at Buckingham Palace in recognition of his many years of community work in Bailiff Bridge.

Malcolm Silkstone, who a key figure in the establishment of Bailiff Bridge Community Centre, attended the event last week with his wife Wynne.

Malcolm was invited by the Lord Lieutenant of West Yorkshire, Dr Ingrid Roscoe, as a thank you for all his efforts in the community over the last 35 years.

“It was absolutely wonderful and a really relaxing experience,” he said.

“All the staff were very friendly and jovial.”

The garden party was attended by the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh, as well as Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall.

“We wandered around the gardens, had something to eat and listened to the band,” Malcolm said.

“Going there was almost like a dream. I never thought it would happen.

“Going to one of the most famous places in the world was an experience I will never forget.”
